What is “diode smoke” exactly?

We chose the name as a humorous reference to our beginnings as a company, when we purely repaired electronics. A diode is a common electronic part, while smoke references a common idiom in the electronics industry where something that has short-circuited and failed is said to ‘have let the (magic) smoke out’
